Frequently asked

What is Compendium?

Compendium is a web directory organised in the style of a reference gazetteer. It catalogues active websites across 22 subject sections, from legal and medical services to travel and technology. Each entry is submitted by the site operator and verified before inclusion.

Is it free to list my site?

Yes. Submitting a site to the Compendium costs nothing. Complete the submission form, select the relevant section, and your entry will be reviewed. Once verified as an active URL in the appropriate category, it is added to the directory.

How are entries organised?

Entries are grouped into 22 sections corresponding to broad areas of trade or activity. Within each section, listings are presented in the order they were verified. There is no ranking by traffic, commercial value, or editorial preference — the Compendium is an index, not a chart.

How do I submit a site?

Use the submission form available on the Add a Site page. Provide the URL of the site you wish to list, choose the most fitting section from the 22 available, and add a brief description of the site's purpose. Submissions are reviewed in order of receipt.

Do you review submissions before listing them?

Each submitted URL is checked for activity before the entry is added to the directory. Sites that return a live response and match their declared category are included. The Compendium does not assess commercial quality, editorial standards, or ownership; it verifies that a site exists and operates as described.

How many sites are listed?

The Compendium currently holds 835 verified entries spread across 22 sections. The directory grows as new submissions are received and verified. The section with the largest number of entries is Miscellaneous Entries & General Trade, which accommodates sites that do not fit neatly into other headings.

Can I update or remove my listing?

If you need to update the description or URL associated with your listing, or if you would like it removed from the directory, contact the editorial team through the site. Changes are made manually and processed in the order requests are received.

What sections does the Compendium cover?

The 22 sections cover a wide span of commercial and informational activity: medical practice, legal counsel, travel and tourism, computing and software, financial services, dental practitioners, building crafts, education, food and drink, furnishings, industrial production, press and media, grooming arts, animal care, print works, real estate, digital marketing, gaming services, personal connexions, documents and identity, provisions, and a general miscellaneous section.

About Compendium

The Compendium is a gazetteer-style web directory that charts the internet the way a reference atlas charts geography — methodically, comprehensively, and without editorial bias toward any single trade or region. Its 835 entries are organised into 22 sections covering everything from building crafts and dental practice to computing systems and travel routes. Each entry represents an active web concern that has been submitted and verified against a live URL. The Compendium does not rank entries by popularity or commercial relationship; it lists them in the tradition of a reference index, where the value lies in coverage rather than curation. Readers may browse by section heading or submit their own site for inclusion at no cost. The directory is updated as new entries are received and verified.
